El Priorat Qualified Designation of Origin extends to the foothills of the Serra de Montsant, in the province of Tarragona. The river Siurana flows downstream towards the Ebro, south of the region. The terrain, made up of slate soils and the different slopes of the Siurana river tributaries, has shaped a landscape that preserves the essence of the area’s vineyards.
This means that of the 44 ha of surface area where our estate is located, in the municipality of Molar, only 22 ha are vineyards. The region’s extreme climate and native grape varieties, as well as the terraces and high minerality of the soil are the four pillars that define the personality of our product.
Best Wines from Priorat
La Petit Agnes, aged for four months in barrels, comes from our fruitiest Garnacha and Cariñena vineyards. Clos Badaceli, aged for 14 months in new French oak barrels, brings the concentration of our best vineyards and refers with its name to the mountain just in front of the winery.
The wine with the smallest production of our winery is called Les Ones whose name refers to the shape of our vineyards with its curves and terraces (Ones in Catalan translates as waves/waves) and is made in very special vintages being a single varietal of the native variety Samsó.
Cal Grau: wineries in the Priorat
The estate is made up of 42 hectares of which only 22 hectares are vineyards; these are classified into plots according to altitude, soils, variety and orientation. The vines rest on terraces of slate soil and follow the contours of the land, enabling workable slopes which, in turn, promote sustainable winegrowing that is adapted to the environment.
At the Cal Grau winery, the winemaking is carried out in small tanks so that each wine can be linked to its sector of origin. The wines are aged in the underground cellar in 300-litre French oak barrels.
