Ribera del Duero Wines

D.O. Ribera del Duero

The Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin covers the provinces of Valladolid, Burgos and a small part of Soria, with 23,000 ha of vineyards. The area’s altitude, between 720 and 1,100 metres above sea level, as well as its nature and amazing history, have resulted in exceptional soil, with layers of clayey sands, limestone and calcareous concretions that produce unique vines, conceived to yield the very best wine.

Wines that complement one another, each with their own personality and expressing a different concept influenced by the type of soil and vineyard.

Discover our wines

We produce four different wines, starting with our “estate wine”, then “Jaros”, aged for 17 months in French oak barrels. We also make a variety of the latter in oak barrels, which is a much younger wine.

The oldest vines in the vineyard, more than 50 years old, yield the grapes used to produce ‘Chafandín’, a wine with a huge personality. Our premium production, ‘Sed de Caná’, which only sees the light of day in certain vintages, comes from the highest point of the Pago (plot).

Why choose our Ribera del Duero wines?

Our Ribera del Duero wines come from our winery “Viña del Jaro”. The 65-hectare estate is located in the heart of the Ribera’s “Golden Mile”, on a hillside with poor soils of pebbles and limestone that give our wines a unique identity of terroir, freshness, elegance and great ageing capacity.

Bodegas del Jaro

After many years of work, in 1997 we found the perfect location on the right bank of the Duero River in Pesquera de Duero, specifically in the “Finca el Quiñón”, which has a forest of holm oaks called “Jaro”, the name that gives life to our winery “Viña del Jaro”.

The property is located along three terraces formed by the Duero riverbed, which makes it complex but also perfect for obtaining highly characterful wines. At present, of the 49 ha dedicated to vineyards, 44 are used for Tempranillo, which coexist with 2.5 ha of Merlot, 2.5 ha of Cabernet Sauvignon and 1 ha of the Albillo Mayor native white variety.
