Winery D.O. Toro

The Toro D.O. is one of the most recognized wine regions in the world, due to the high quality of its wines and its unmistakable personality. Located between the provinces of Zamora and Valladolid, this appellation brings together 63 wineries, including Viñedos de Yaso.

With more than 2,000 years of history, Denominación de Origen Toro has its origins in Roman times and reached its maximum splendor during the Middle Ages, when it was even chosen to accompany Christopher Columbus on his voyage to discover America.

Undoubtedly, the greatest emblem of this D.O. is the Tinta de Toro, a grape that, thanks to its perfect adaptation to the soil and climate of the region, can be considered an autochthonous variety with its own identity.

YASO VINEYARDS

Viñedos de Yaso: Winery D.O. Toro

Belonging to the D.O. Toro, our winery Viñedos de Yaso, is located near Morales de Toro, in the province of Zamora. With an extension of 5 hectares in trellis, its production is entirely dedicated to the cultivation of Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo). In addition, we carefully manage plots of centenary vineyards in the villages of Valdefinjas and El Pego, where our most outstanding wines are born: Yaso Flor de Matteria and Matteria Viñas Viejas.

For years, we have been working in a local winery that we have partially rented. Although our annual production is very limited, with less than 30,000 bottles, the entire winemaking, aging and bottling process is under the supervision of Bodegas Iberian’s technical team.

The Yaso farm is located on clay loam and sandy loam soils, characterized by a stony texture and a nutrient-poor surface. The clay subsoil favors good moisture retention, allowing the vineyard to develop even in extreme climatic conditions. The region’s continental climate, with Atlantic influences and marked temperature contrasts between day and night, defines the unique character of our wines.

Wines from our D.O. Toro Winery

In our winery we elaborate wines that represent the essence of Tinta de Toro, the autochthonous variety of the region. Yaso is a young, fresh and contemporary mid-aged wine that maintains respect for Toro’s winemaking tradition. Yaso Flor de Matteria combines selected grapes from old vineyards with 14 months aging in French oak barrels, offering a more complex profile. Finally, Yaso Matteria Viñas Viejas Viejas, made from hundred-year-old vines and aged for 26 months in French oak barrels. Three different wines, but with the same commitment: to reflect the quality and character of the Toro D.O. Toro.ancés is a tribute to the history and authenticity of this variety.
